Dental Exams and Cleanings
One of the most important steps you can take to lasting internal health is to take care of your teeth. It seems odd that your oral health would have such an impact on the rest of your body, but a healthy smile can prevent complications with your heart, brain, and circulatory system.
The best way to maintain your oral health is to receive regular dental cleanings and examinations. Although you may do a good job brushing and floss on a daily basis, your oral health at home does not compare to what your dentist can provide. At Noleen Dental, we suggest coming in every 5-6 months for a cleaning and examination.
What Happens During a Dental Cleaning?
A cleaning is designed to remove all of the bacteria from your teeth that you are unable to remove on your own. Our hygienist uses special tools that scrape plaque and tartar from off your tooth enamel. We will also polish and floss your teeth and check for cavities.
Your cleaning is also a great time for our hygienist to educate you about the best ways for you to clean your teeth at home. We may suggest brushing or flossing tips as well as the best oral hygiene brands to use.
What’s Involved in a Dental Exam?
After your cleaning, Dr. Nguyen will perform a dental examination, which involves checking your dentition for any underlying health concerns. We will address any cavities and assess your gum health as well as perform an oral cancer screening if necessary.
An examination is designed to identify and possibly diagnose any health problems that may have progressed since your last appointment. Our goal is to be as proactive as possible when treating dental issues, which is why we will start treatment before any issues get worse.
Your dental exam is also a great time to talk about any cosmetic concerns you have with your smile. Together, you and Dr. Nguyen can map out a treatment plan and find the procedures that fit within your time-frame, budget, and goals.
